Remember Hasti from my waiting Cate Blanchett’s occasion? Unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to meet each other after that special encounter. She started her University class the next day so the time didn’t match but we won’t forget our first meeting in front of Armani hotel together! She will be studying in Milan for 4 years for sure we will try to meet each other again in Milan or Dortmund or any other place in between 😉
She’s already so fashionable ehhh!
After my starstruck, I mustered all the energy to walk to Duomo. Since I’m doing solo, it’s hard to take a picture because it’s enormous! until I found two girls that looks like they are capable of taking pictures haha I took theirs too as they also facing the same problem, guys were not capable of doing a good pictures! Then I realized her phone is better! It is not an iPhone however the photo are wide and kind of fish eye thingy so I took some with their phone. They don’t have internet but once they have wifi, they send it to my email, so sweet! Now you can delete it haha won’t consume the memory of your phone no more, thank you Vanessa and her sister 🙂
Andrea went back to Germany one day earlier than me, I decided to have dinner in Navigli area (again) by myself, let’s do a bit of exploration there! It all started when I met a lady on a bridge who (again) haha #too many again, looks like someone who knows how to take picture. We started to talk, she’s half Poland half American living in Paris, whaaatttt so cool! Since we both are alone, we had dinner together, pasta time #nom nom Me and Pola came back to our places via Metro Station which is coincidently only one station apart.
So happy I keep meeting nice people during my trip, there are good Samaritans everywhere, perhaps faith in humanity is something that is still worth believing for 😀
Good luck in every part of your lives ladies, thank you for spare your time with me, hope we will meet each other again! if not…. wish you bump into many good Samaritans in your life, same as you have bumped into mine 🙂
Me and Andrea planned my birthday trip to Milan on the last week of September. I arrived one day earlier than her, landed in Milan Bergamo on Saturday evening, did nothing except go to my AirBnb and sleep directly. I have never booked an AirBnb before… hey there is a first time for everything right? This is it, my birthday week, my first AirBnb!
My AirBnb landlord’s Victoria has some suggestion where to go on first day etc she has a complete manual eehhh so organized. Andrea will only arrive around dinner time therefore I do some sightseeing by myself first. After having breakfast in a Patisserie of her choice, went to the area close to home called Corso Buenos Aires and Porta Venezia via foot. I took some detour, saw some ancient style building or neostyle or however style you would describe it. For statue lover I think it would be artistic but for me it’s a bit scary, I like it when the statue are on churches, on some entrance gate too but no need to be so much hahaha
If you already arrived Porta Venezia, it’s already halfway to the Duomo so let’s continue walking. I read in billboard everywhere Milan Fashion Week 20-26 SEPT 22 but my brain processed it as 22nd September instead of reading the 22 as year 2022, “oh the fashion week is already passed” that’s what I thought until I walked passed Armani Hotel.
Why there are so many people waiting in front of it? my mind still didn’t connect with Milan Fashion Week, I thought “famous people maybe wants to come out” since I don’t have any agenda, I chose to asked around, most of them also don’t know. I ain’t give up, I have nothing to lose. Until one Korean lady asked a security and she said Cate Blanchett is gonna come out. Oh let’s wait!
One girl from Dubai, at that time I didn’t know her name also asked “do you know who is coming? What if its not worthy?” but the moment she know it’s Cate Blanchett we waited together! I think she is a fans of her while me rather an impromptu fans. I mean… I’m already so close to see Hollywood A Star, no backing down! #dedicated
We kept waiting, people with make up come out “who is she? Is she famous? Ah no they are model wannabe or some local actress who unfortunately we don’t know” not meaning bad but we were so nervous, curious, every feeling mixed about when Cate Blanchett will appear, we had our camera always ready.
Then a photographer told us “do you know the blonde?” hmmmm no “she’s the wife of American basketball player and a model of Dolce & Gabbana glasses” ahhh ok the photographer was nice though to talk to us.
Suddenly 6 bodyguards are lining up in front of the hotel, said to Hasti “I think she will come out soon” She is in dilemma because her father is hungry should she leave or wait for some time because we did already wait for some time at least 20 minutes.
Hasti’s father recorded us waiting infront of the hotel, here is the compilation video of the crowd + us. You can see both Hasti and I were so invested 😉
Then she came out, didn’t say hi nothing, walked somewhere I don’t know. I got separated from her because I was holding my phone tried to record her, I didn’t want to follow them but people around me started running. If I don’t run, I will for sure fall down thus I had to run too! Turns out we were waiting at the wrong place, there were even more people and photographer waiting in front of the building where Milan fashion week takes place.
I raaannnn passed the crowd, tried to get some selfies, well… someone famous is standing right in front of my eyes, let’s try to make the best out of it. The bodyguard was “Senora senora” shut up! I already almost stomped, let me get some selfies at least. And yes I got it!
You might think I got even a chance to talk to her because I got it so close and no one took a selfie behind me but nope here you can see the bodyguard tries to remove my arms hahaha
Then I started to wonder if Kim Kardahsians will come too because Hasti said that she is in Milan not sure for fashion week but she’s here. Okay let’s wait. Some cars arrived, too bad I can’t see who is inside the car because the windows are dark.
There are so many model wannabe or the guest. Italian always dress up well so I don’t know which one are famous, which one are not. I wasn’t on the front line anymore as I thought there won’t be famous people walking there again until I saw a lady from distance that was so stand out among the crowd however no bodyguard but she was sooooo beautiful she can’t be a normal people or model wannabe. I squeezed myself to the front…thinking…. “Victoria Beckham? No way….” The crowd saying something like Alessandra, smile….Alessandra who…… until she walked infront of me “damn it! It’s Alessandra Ambrosio!”!!!
They are soo tall ehhh! they do wear heels, it doesn’t mean had they took it off they would be the same height as me. I was a bit dysfunctional after my first encounter with Hollywood actress / model.
Then I went to Duomo happily, met two sisters who borrowed me her phone. Finally met Andrea, she craves for Japanesse Ramen haha we could just go to Düsseldorf but nope need to fly to Milan to eat Ramen….thanks God the Ramen was worthy!
I’m already content with the trip that has just started 🙂
NO NO NO it is not the “I have a pen, I have an apple, ehm, pineapple” which was famous almost a decade ago. Whaaattt? almost a decade? pffff I’m old!
I knew Thorben planned to fly to Germany for her sisters’ wedding + work + holiday. His sisters and my sisters’ wedding date only one day apart. So by the time he’s in Germany, I am in Indonesia. Almost every weekend in August I am already fully booked until one fine weekend my phone vibrated to a Wechat message “do you work next week?” yes ofc! somebody need money to pay all the cost increase due to this stupid war heeeyyyyy what an odd I won’t be working? very low correct?
He told me he will be in Spiekeroog and if I have time I can join him. Is that even a question? It’s been more than 2,5 years since the last time I saw him without a doubt I will find the time! First come first, where the hell is Spiekeroog? to me it sounds like Netherlands….. nope, wrong! it’s still Deutschland! By DB Bahn + Bus it will take 5 hours one way hell yeah it won’t stop me, I don’t know when will I see him again, might as well take this chance.
Checked if my holiday will clash with my colleague? nope! got my boss’ approval, I am lucky because Katharina and the gang hahaha I meant husband plus her two kids will also go to Spiekeroog on Wednesday so, on the way there I can join them. Last time I saw her kids was 2 years ago, Annalena didn’t want to talk to me like who is this Asian lady 😉 forget about Julian, he was just 6 month old, a baby! a very little baby #cuttteeee
I went to their hotel in Wuppertal. We left the hotel at 08:25 stopped by Edeka, set a timer to only 15 minutes. To my surprise or should I say not surprise as they’re all Germans, all of them were on-time! by the seconds 46 we were already at the cashier haha still amazed how they can managed it. Arrived at Neuharlingersiel Port at 12:30, our ferry depart on 13:00 wohooooo!! we really do behave in a timely manner #proud
Thorben picked us up in the Port huaaaaaaa! so happy to meet him again! the weather was sooooo hot like soooooo freaking hot! I was sweating all over! like all all over over literally. The main transportation is our feet haha many steps was made during my two days there. Thorben said the only one that allowed to drive a car is either an emergency krankenhaus officer or police but sometimes police are riding horse. In another words, we as normal people can’t have any means of transportation, just walk. Where did we go? straight to the beach each.
Me and Thorben took a very long walk to go to the beach so I saw a little bit more of the island where it all covered by sands, many of the people there are walking barefoot actually… I ain’t one of them haha
We didn’t get any of the Strandkörbe because we were too late, not a big deal because Rina brought her own “tent”. When you have 2 small kids, supported by the fact that you are a German, meaning you will always be prepared 😉
Annalena collected a bucket full of mussels, we separated it into the perfect mussels, broken and dirty group. However it’s all umsonst as she remixed it again haha, she was very dedicated! I am for sure don’t have that kind of patience when I was her age.
Then we had dinner, Thorben cooked for us yeay! That’s not a new news btw haha. There is a bar in Spiekeroog quoted “best bar in the world” ha! yes right! better than any bars in Shanghai, New York etc, it has to be in a small island at the north side of Germany. According to Thorben it’s a very normal sailor bar kind of things, he is veeerryyy realistic heyyy. At first I wanted to go but after dinner, I have 0 energy anymore, mehhh lieber gern to snooze zzzzz
The next day as known as my last day T.T hiks hiks we had breakfast together, Thorben’s grandma made her own bread, not the dead grandma #oopps sorry haha that bread wasn’t 2 years old. Why oh why grandma you could have rest the whole day but you chose to made a couple handmade bread, what a grandma would do to her grandkids.
After breakfast Annalena was so motivated to join us for a walk around the village, she’s keep giving us a surprise that wasn’t even close to a surprise 😀 she collected leaves, flowers from the street, tear it up to small pieces then throw it to us saying “Überraschung” or suddenly throwing herself to the street, what element of a surprise a child has in mind 😉 Don’t worry Thorben made sure she was eingecremed! she’s protected from the sun by my sunscreen SPF 50 PA+++ at least this time I got the German preparation point.
While waiting until 11AM to eat the Bunte Eis, we went to see the statue of a man looking far away, de Utkieker. Julian hold himself very well, remembering that last time I saw him he was only maybe 5-6 months old still full of Sabber and couldn’t even walked. There he was the whole time running, yoga-ing, laying on the street, such a free soul. The wind was so big, my hair looks like a pineapple there.
Followed by walking around the village again, went inside the old church which is very small haha! This was the first church I see that has a ship ornament, cool eh!
Then the must have Bunte Eis! Julian was really really really frech haha he had finished his ice cream, Annalena hasn’t. Julian approached her asked “probieren?” 😀
Unfortunately my departure time has come 🙁 huaaaa we arrived 30 minutes before the boats depart. What will you see? The germans already starts to queu up. Stefan said “typisch Deutsch oder?!?!” haha
Bye bye gangs!!! thank you for introducing me to Spiekeroog!
I had a bit of time to spend in the Port area before taking a bus + DB Bahn back to Dortmund. I think if I come again next time I will stay one day in the Port area too. I don’t have a pen, I don’t have an apple but I have a pineapple hair ehm! 😀
Just FYI, I don’t like to expose a picture of an underage kids thanks to Freepik from flaticon.com they always have a perfect icon to represents those kids!
HA! I took an ICE train bound to Hannover on the last weekend of June, ofc it doesn’t cost 9 Euro but at least it didn’t take forever to get to Hannover as it would if I take die RE Bahn.
Why out of the sudden Hannover? Because I have a secret mission with one of my sister’s husband (Dominic) Aunt, Ingrit! In order to get to the bottom why I got in contact with her we have to go a bit back. I think somewhere in May, I was with Andrea in one of the castle near her village, my phone rang. It was an unbekannte Nummer….hmmm who would call me on Sunday afternoon? this won’t be work related isn’t it? nope it wasn’t. A lady voice called, I didn’t catch all as I was suspicious who the hell is calling me, however she mentioned the important keywords: Berger, Hannover, Schwester. AHA! I know who you are!
Since then we wrote each other via WA from time to time, then she called me again around beginning of June saying that she won’t come to my sister’s wedding in Jakarta but she has a gift for them. At first she asked me my home address so she can send it. I told her, I’ve never been to Hannover I can also come to pick it up. We decided the date will be on my sister’s birthday so we can call her and wish her a happy birthday.
Like a German, she need to plan for my arrival, the hell is that. She called me what do I want to eat, where do I want to go, mind you at that time I’m still working, as if she couldn’t sense I wanted to end the phone so badly, she continued talking blablabla in the end I said sth along the way “let’s see what will we do after I come btw I need to go back to work now” OMG relax! so much fuss about it, maybe I should rather ask her to post the present.
I’ve told my colleague Holger and Sven about it, they googled what to see in Hannover. Herrenhausen Gardens falls in first category followed by Maschsee. Holger said I need to say to Tante Ingrit “I want to visit Herrenhausen Gardens because I heard it already when I still in Shanghai” sie freut sich bestimmt! Dummerweise, I followed his tips, Ingrit was “You knew it oh yes then we need to visit it!”
Managed myself to find Ingrit in Hannover Hbf, went straight home, had breakfast. Although she is a vegetarish, she bought me Mett brötchen as I requested haha. She said it was her first time to go to Metzgerei after so long 🙂 Danke für die Mühe…. plus Proseco.
During the morning it was the time that me and my family have our regular WA call so I thought this time it will be a surprise because Ingrit will be there. However this time the call was a bit postponed because my mom was somewhere else and Ingrit again made a fuss about it “oh should I send Katrin the picture of you now? then she will calls you. Or maybe I can send it to Horst first” Lady please! I said just wait until we made our regular video call, then you can do whatever you want with the picture. Apparently it’s not a good enough answer, she asked again “when will it be?” no it’s gonna be later. I know she is very excited but at some point it got me to the nerve but Processo helps 😉
While waiting for the call, we went to a small city center kind of things, had ice cream, stopped by at Ingrit’s working shop. And then the moment we are waiting for is there or I force it to be there as I can’t handle her fuss anymore, I called my sister, not long after that my parents call in again during our way to Herrenhausen Gardens.
It was such a bright day, 39 degrees, I was a bit worried about my sunscreen as I haven’t re-apply it whoaaa on the other hand, Ingrit was full mode! We didn’t visit the whole garden as it separated into 2 part. But I’ve done enough imo. We saw flowers, bronze statue, taking pictures here and there. Ingrit has a talent as a photographer btw! She can see where is the better place, tell what you should do, including giving a pressure to other visitors to move out so we can get the spot too haha
Ingrit said wir müssen unbedingt die große Fontane sehen, tadammm! reached it! We were sitting on the bench for a long time before we decided to move our asses and asked someone to take our pictures. Then she told me I need to see the Grotte? forgot the name but it’s some kind of mosaic artistic indoor place. Then we stopped by to re-fuel with cake! the birthday cake for my sister. The service was too slow and the waiter took a very ugly picture, not even wanted to say 1 2 3, pffff we left no tips!
Left the Herrenhausen Gardens, went through a park that lead us to the Rathaus and Maschst See. Honestly, I’m done for that day. So want to just lay down and do nothing, the heat is killing me.
I slept in what was expected to be 30 minutes turns into 2.5 hours haha when I woke up it was still bright but already 21:40. Took shower, had Indonesian snack that she bought, at around 23:00 off to the forest to see fireflies. We saw it! many of them! but it flies! I can’t take a picture because the camera won’t catch it. One man on the bike passed by, Ingrit asked him if he also searching for fireflies, turns out that man hat Ahnung about it, he told us its not a fireflies rather than a Johanis Käfer and only in this 3 days it will appears! what a lovely encounter 🙂 so glad Ingrit has a free spirit soul to suddenly have a random ide, go to a forest in the hope of catching some “fireflies”
The next morning, I still haven’t finish my yesterday’s Mett and I had to finish it as she wont eat it. Then we went to a Kanal near her home then she send me back to Hbf.
Hannover checked, wedding present checked! Done my Job 🙂
Travel without worries with 9 Euro Ticket…. at least for me, not for Claudia hiiiiiii. We were supposed to go to Gevelsberg Kirmes on 24th of June. I didn’t see Claudia that whole week because she was in Hamburg with Stefan and Milena for a Procurement Seminar things. They scheduled to return back to Dortmund on Thursday, work on Friday then after work we will go to Kirmes together. One day before, Stefan was Positif with Corona that means Claudia needed to stay at home, that also means no Kirmes on Friday, although she is negative she still need to stay at home until day 5 and do the test, if still negative then she can come out. Day 5 from 24.06 is 28th of June which also the last day of Kirmes! She’s free!!!
I came with RE Bahn and S Bahn to Alina’s home in Gevelsberg, then the 3 of us walked there.
We were the early bird’s team, we were there around 17:20-ish. It is like a Christmas Market BUT in Summer! even the stand are similar wohoooo me like it! We went up the hill, checked, then start our food hunting. Alina is the Kirmes’ expert 🙂 We started with clasic Langos, although I already had something to drink on the way up the hill hihihi
We went up again to the middle of the hill to had a drink plus a shot! HA! Interesting 😉 First shot, Claudia and Alina had Rhabarbar or only Rhabar? hmm anyway…..I took Himbar. Gulp! so refreshing, it’s like a Saft with alcohol, you don’t feel it that time. Then Alina bought the second round, we all had the same, yuhuuu still tasted good! Hmm…. now I want to try the Rhabarbar too, third round on me, gulp, I started to feel the alcohol getting in 😉 Because we 3 keep standing there, the stand owner said “let me invite you all for the fourth one” wohoooo I’m in Cloud 9 O.O need to stop, no more alcohol.
Both of them continued to have another drink, strawberry thingy plus alcohol, I can’t, I literally can’t, as can’t as can’t even reach the Theke huaaaa 🙁 #life is unfair.
I only stayed there until 8 because remember it’s on a Tuesday, I need one hour plus to go back to Dortmund and work the next day. They both stayed until the fireworks at the end, I watched it too via drone from Youtube… cool eh?!
Hope no more Corona topic so more festival in verschiedenen Städten will be stattfindet 🙂
From June to August, Germany implement a new policy to make people use public transport more, that policy is called 9-Euro Ticket. Meaning that if we buy the 9-Euro Ticket in June we can take any public transportation to whole Germany except IC, ICE (the high speed train) and Flixbus (that can go to whole Europe) for that whole month, then we need to pay another 9 Euro for July and 9 Euro for August, isn’t it great? If you need a comparison of how expensive Germany ist, for only Dortmund, I paid 72 Euro per month for my transportation card pfffff
I was told that the first weekend in June was a Katastrophe! because everyone is trying to get out of the city so all the train station was full. It didn’t stop me to go to Köln the following week with this 9 Euro Ticket though. I was a bit afraid to be honest but my way to overcome is just woke up earlier to take the train that wasn’t at rush hour, should be OK. Texted Leo, he said I was so brave to even try haha! nothing can hold Asian from a good deal!
Took RE Train at 8AM from Dortmund Hbf, arrived earlier so I still can get a sit. Indeed the train was full! but not full full full to the point you can’t breath. Here, even though every row consist of 2 on the right and 2 on the left, if you travel alone, you consumed the whole 2 seats, no one will sit next to you. Actually I can say the train was only 70% full, nothing compare to Shanghai’s full 😉 I did have to stand up when I had the interchange in Wuppertal as it was already a rush hour time, I ain’t complaint about it. But for a German this is already a full full full pffff come to Shanghai once please then you understand what is the meaning of full 😉
Arrived Köln in full piece at around 10-ish, headed to breakfast immediately 🙂
Started calmly hot chocolate, as if the sugar wasn’t enough BAM! Pancake!
Like always, we need to re-cap what was happening in our life during the time we didn’t see each other. This time they had a lot more stories to offer 🙂 starting with the struggle of getting Tracy out of Shanghai and into Germany plus their dog, Dandy! it was really such a stressful time for both of them, glad they made it! Their Standesamt wedding in Denmark and baby on the way!
None of them told me but my ears are as sharp as a knife! I heard when we ordered breakfast Leo said to Tracy “remember you cannot eat fish” owh! how I suddenly filled with joy, almost jumped from my seat but managed to be chilled. Wait until the waitress went away, directly addressed the question “Tracy, are you pregnant?” they were in shocked! it’s not that she became fat because she wasn’t look like anything close to pregnant. I explained, I heard what Leo said then Leo said “oh you are smart” haha having a 4 months pregnant sister who also cannot eat seafood made me aware of it. What best is their child will also be a girl and should arrive at the same time as my sister’s child! wohoooo this baby girl will be half Asian half German, can’t wait for both of them!
Leo is not a fan of Köln city center as it’s always full, yeah the Dome is there, what can you expect. We decided to walked around the Rhine river. Tried to get an ice cream in a shop that looks like an ice cream shop, we kind of “stealing” the seat from family of 5 but it was really keine Absicht just to find out that it wasn’t an ice cream shop and needed to head out, sorry family of 5!
We can’t take it no more with the heat and our Beine also stopped cooperating, we just need a place to sit plus additional curry wurst hahaha so far from what we wanted first, actually I was the one who wanted ice cream so bad. But Leo did his job, he won’t let me leave Köln before I had it 🙂
As Leo told me it only takes 30 mins from Köln to Düsseldorf with RE Bahn, okay! I decided to have a Ramen in Takumi’s Düsseldorf. Said goodbye to both of them plus Dandy, it was always good to meet your old friend again although by the end of the day when Leo knew he wasn’t invited to my 30th birthday he said “Marlyn are we only your third class friends?” haha! know your place fellas! #devil’s laugh
I shall hang this photo before they visited me in Dortmund otherwise they might thought they fall into fourth class friends hahaha
Thanks Leo and Tracy, until next time, which is very soon 😉
Last destination for this short trip: Bolzano / Bozen! While I was on the train the scenery did reminded me of Bali. Only Bali was full of rice terrace, Bolzano was full of winery, it’s the same “green” but not the same green, get it? Thomas picked me up, drove to his village located at Eppan. It feels so damn good to meet your friends again! Really really really fest hug for Thomas 🙂 We summarized each other 2 years life stories within that evening.
While he already gone to work, I just woke up, had some breakfast then figure out how the hell should I get out from his apartment, where is the main door? I managed it in the end, it’s not a rocket science isn’t it haha! I was walking to the bus stop heading to Bolzano City Center, for the past days I really having difficulties due to language barrier in Verona but in Bolzano not at all because all of them speaks German including the bus driver and passengers too so I can ask anyone freely wohoooooo #freedom!
Arrived city center, did some sightseeings, found a church, when I tried to look what was the name it’s Duomo, ooowwww but it’s a small Duomo haha then walked to Piazza Weather, shopping, having pasta allo scoglio, alles!
I continued walked around until I found some more greens in the area. Imo it’s very calming to see mixture of nature and city. Then Thomas met me after his work to have ribs as our dinner yummyyy!
Weekend come, I requested Thomas to take me to see Dolomites, it is just to see not to hike (Corona survivor here, no sports allowed yet for now and some time in the future haha) Friend of Thomas gave him some tips about one place called Lago Carezza the good things about this lake is we can just park our car then walk to see the lake haha no hiking or any sort of long walks involved.
Driving duration from Eppan to Lake Carezza actually not so long, maybe within 1.5 hours supposedly haha 😉 it’s located about 1700m above the sea level. It is up in the mountain, actually it’s quite nice but my God the way up there was left, right, left, right, sometimes turn a bit sharp. Thomas honestly speaking drove very well, not fast, really smooth etc, we were talking talking talking then I started to feel something not comfortable in my stomach but I kept quiet, drink my water lalala until I broke the silence and he said “it is because of the road, not because you don’t eat enough breakfast or so, we can stop if you want” Oh yes I need to stop. I took a deep breath, stretching, sitting on top of the tree trunk, thinking should I continue to go or just go home because I really really want to throw up haha!
In total we stopped 3 times on the way up. When we arrived, it was in between rain, small rain, cloudy so we decided to eat currywurst haha! Eating something very German in Italy to buy some time in the hope the sun will shine when we’re done with it. After we ate, the sun did shine for a bit of time, I don’t see the famous Dolomites but I saw the glimpse of it and I’m happy 🙂 it did resemblance with the Toblerone mountain but it ain’t.
On the way back Thomas also had to stop 2 times, he said “Marlyn I can see the tunnel where it lead us to Bozen” Nope Thomas, we still need to stop here haha
Thomas had an idea to visit Messner Mountain Museum in Firmian as it located on the way to Eppan. Hell yeah! I watched 14 Peaks I know who Mr. Reinhold Messner ist. Little did I knew, he is an original Bozen-er, I thought he is a German guy haha. Went there, the location is amazing! Right on the cafe, Thomas said to me “Oh Marlyn he is there” damn I have a starstruck, feels like I am meeting a celebrity, yes he is a legend for mountain hikers. I said “Thomas I need to have a picture with him, come” I approached to him saying imo politely schon, “Herr Messner, darf ich ein Foto mit Ihnen machen?” he did say something to his companera I didn’t get what he said but I understand when he said “Ja aber bitte abstand halten” OK, then Thomas said to me what he said to his companera “Yeah I paid 13 Euro for entrance ticket now I need a photo” well damn yeah! if your museum is for free then I wouldn’t bother if you don’t want but I paid yo! Just look at the camera and chill!
The museum is really good designed as it was an ex-castle with a very good interior. We thought we won’t spend so much time there but it’s soooo big, we were there until it’s about to close.
Reached Eppan in the evening, had another pasta in Eppan city center haha alla chitara with Seafood. Thomas told me “oh if you want seafood you can have this” I asked “why they don’t call it allo scoglio?” “because it’s not that otherwise they would’ve called it that way, not every seafood pasta is allo scoglio Marlyn” hahaha it’s just a different way of cooking but still sooo damn good!
Last day in Bolzano I went back to city center to visit Castle Roncolo and had a lazy walk.
Next day morning, Thomas send me back to train station to Milano Centrale. It was such a great 3 days spending out with your long time friends, thank you Thomas for all your hospitality, I wish you all the best in your career, personal life and goals.
Lots of love for you <3
I used my last chance to eat another seafood pasta with Aperol spritz and this Aperol is as giant as my face haha!
Finished my lunch, ich verabschiede mich mit Italy, took the bus to Bergamo then flew back to Dortmund.
We have a saying in Indonesian when something so red is, we called it merah merona, get it why this time it became Marlona? spill the teaaaa! it’s because Marlyn was in Verona 😉
What can I say about Verona other than it is sooooo romantically beautiful! every corner of it, no jokes. I bought 48 hours Verona card cost 28 Euro which is so worthy, it gave me an access to 15 attractions plus bus ticket. I have a must must must visit place, the two and only: Arena de Verona and Casa di Giulietta, for sure within my 48 hours stays in Verona I will manage this two places haha!
When I was on the way to take my Verona card, I walked passed a group of teenage schoolgirl, one girl came closer to me, out of nowhere she gave me a pluck of flower, awww so sweet! 🙂 Starting the day with a flower, what a nice gesture! God blessed me not only with a beautiful weather the whole day but also the energy to visit almost all “important according to me” attractions in one day!
Let’s check Arena de Verona! (btw the entrance itself was 10 Euro). When I visited Arena they hold a concert so you can see the stage, sound system etc. Nevertheless, I was amazed by the size of it, how it was in the old era serve as “Gladiator” or any kind of fight or performance. My point is this is WOW! Imagine you watch a concert here, must be amaazzinngggg #droll!
Moving on to the must visit number 2, Juliet’s Home! Joe said that I had to touch Juliet’s “left” boobs for luck, okay, I waited until it’s my turn to take pictures, remembering in my head left left left left but then damn! touched her right boobs, what worse was just realized it when I was already on her balcony! Texted Joe said “I need to re-do the picture because I touch her right boobs instead of the left” Joe searched it on google, to my surprise “No you did it right! it was my mistake, you should touch her right boobs” fiuhhhh! can’t do any mistake here 🙂
The house / museum is small but it does the job of showing which scenes are important from Romeo and Juliet.
Two of the most important attractions visited! The rest is luxus 🙂 let’s have some lunch! I had Amarone Risotto + Hugo. Oh Oh Oh people, I had to say that even the Aperol and Hugo taste better in Italy #droollinggg! I also did some gummibearchen shopping as when I walked pass the candy store, my inner child got excited to see so many type of it, I put it all in one bag until I weighed it on and it’s cost 14 Euro! f#$?! the same price as my lunch pfffffff #lesson learned
Next attraction is Torre dei Lamberti, Nico texted me to go here, I wasn’t even thinking of it at first. Here you can see Verona view from the top but not really Verona view view view like how it looks like on a fridge magnet souvenir or so, for this one you have to go to the other side 😉 still including in the Verona card…not bad to check this one but better pay 1 Euro for the elevator ride unless you don’t have Corona before than I think you can handle those stairs.
I am not a big fans of Museum so I won’t feel that I miss something if I missed it. Go to Basilica di Santa Anastasia! This church imo is better than Complesso della Cattedrale-Duomo. The Duomo is too big and easily to get split focus between the altar or the other part of the church.
I was in between closing my day or continue to visit one last attraction which is Museo Archeologico al Teatro Romano. Long story short, I’m glad I pushed myself to go there! This is where people would see the view of Verona’s bridge, l’acqua on postcard, fridge magnet and other souvenirs, so beautiful!!!!
The Museum itself is kind of an “open museum” style, I personally will tell you that this must be included into the must visit attraction because of the way to go there is just fantastic! You got different atmosphere other than the other attractions that are in the city center.
The guy in the museum informed me that behind this Museum not so far there is a place called Castel S. Pietro, this is the real “observation deck” without a deck hahaha! it’s an open area where you can see Verona’s view from the top top top but you had to walk a lot of stairs to go there, I did try but meh! running out of breath, go down again, I’m happy with Verona from the Museum 🙂
After that I am dead tired, I bought 2 slices of pizza to go, went to Hostel and lie down completely O_O
Still have 24 Hours to go, what’s next?!
I only have 3 places in mind, Museo degli Affreschi – Tomba di Giulietta, Museo di Castelvecchio and Chiesa di San Fermo Maggiore.
There are 4 Churches in total, San Fermo is the 3rd church I visited, the last one is Basilica di San Zeno but it’s located rather “remote” haha not so actually if I don’t have Corona for sure I’ll have enough energy to go there too but not this time 😉
Tomba di Giulietta is….. not like Casa di Giulietta, it’s a tomb….so….. and I’m not sure how did Juliet fits in this tomb hmmmm…. if you don’t have time I don’t think you missed it 🙂
Last attraction was Museo di Castelvecchio oh oh oh! I like this one! This also a mix of “open museum” with bricks style, sooo beautiful! This museum also should be in one of the must list haha the list is getting bigger and bigger 😉
With that I closed Verona, went to train station direction Bolzano to visit Thomas, let’s continue my Journey!
Thank you Verona for showing me that romantic is beautiful <3
Nope it’s not a spelling mistake 😉 L’acqua = the water in Italian, why you asked? After having a consultation with Julius, Claudia, Julia, Daniel, Nicola, Silvia, QQ Dite, all of them encouraged me to continue my trip to Italy, on one condition, I have to make an adjustments from the original plan, it must involves more eating, sitting and less sightseeing. I am sammeln-ing my courage to go, in the end decided to skip Milan, bought a new flight to Verona directly.
I arrived Verona in somehow quiet evening time, I didn’t do much except checked in, youtube of what to eat- I chose Bigoli Ragu and went back to the Hostel.
Next day, I hop on the train departs from Verona Main Station to Desenzano Del Garda-Sirmione to meet with Giovanni aka Joe. That stations’ name were exactly where we went to do sightseeing, Desenzano and Sirmione. They are surrounded by water, l’acqua everywhere 🙂
What is the prove of the l’aqua, here they have Hafen 🙂
I was lucky that on that day, Densenzano had a market, so it’s a “pop up” market, let’s called it that way where they put all the items they sell inside a car then drove else where and so on. The market was kind of full of everything from kitchen utensils, clothes to ofc The Doctor 46!
Joe and I met in Shanghai 5 years ago, we are a big fans of Sushi O so he took me to another Sushi restaurant in Desenzano haha very authentic Desenzano food! He said it wasn’t even cross his mind to take me somewhere authentic Desenzano. He directly thought “Oh Marlyn is here, let’s have Sushi”
Let’s rewind a bit, he understands the homework so well! I told him I was just turn negative and don’t want to do many walks or sightseeing please just plan the activity that only involves eating and sitting because before he planned to do either kayak, paddle boat or whatever things they can do on the water, nope, revised needed 🙂
The Japanese restaurant was all you can eat #another proof that he is doing his Homework well, we managed to ate it all even after several snacks beforehand. We did sat there until they almost closed but the waiter are Chinese so they are nicer to me 🙂 #advantage of speaking the language yo!
Then we took a walk around the lake Garda from whatever directions as it is a big lake, if I recall correctly what Joe said….it’s the biggest lake in Europe-not sure if it’s true, #too lazy to Google 😉 He was so total in taking pictures, very dedicated, try portrait, from this angel etc, good job Joe!
Then we drove to Sirmione, they have castle and church as city center and everything surrounding it just so beautiful. It is not big but has a lot of character, touristic yes but a good one. They also have a small cafe surrounded by greens, I mean…. in the middle of forest.
Wait! where is the l’acqua? Can’t call this post Acquamarlyn if Marlyn is not in the l’acqua! Relax, here it is 🙂
Although I ain’t really do much other than pigging out = eating, having a Pipas snack that I carried back to Verona, drink Aperol, stop on ice cream store, I did feel tired! Not sure if its a Corona effect or a Foodcoma sensation 😉
To close the day, Joe drove me back to Verona and since we both in Europe now, we don’t need to wait another 5 years to meet up again 🙂 but of course not as fast as one week after -_- haha let’s fast forward to the day I came back to Germany, Joe texted me “have you arrived Germany safely? I also just arrived” I was like “wtf, stop following me! hahaha we just met last week yo, I’m not ready to meet you again in the airport” 😀 Just kidding! for sure when Joe have a business trip to Germany in NRW and if both of our time fits, I’ll meet him again, until then…. take care my friend and thanks! keep healthy, I hope you will make it till the end without ever having Corona sickness history 😉
I just finished a legendary 9 days in Iceland with Girl Gone International (GGI) Facebook group. To my surprise many of my friends want to go there too and seeing the Northern Lights is one of the dream for them. Therefore here what I want you to prepare for Iceland, but most important among all is MONEY! in form of debit / credit card. I don’t suggest you to exchange your Euro / USD into ISK because they accept payment with card everywhere, only though check with your bank because mine has 1% fee every time I use outside Germany.
First thing first, Iceland is VERY EXPENSIVE! For this 9 days I spend almost 3K Euro (2925,43 Euro to be exact) and I’m already flying from Germany btw, just imagine if you fly from outside Europe, the fee will be fantastic for surrreeee. Did I expect it will be this expensive? No. Did I blow it out of proportion? Big time. Did I think it’s worthy? Absolutely! We can always earn money but the opportunity to see what I saw, to experience what I did, I’m not sure I will get it again.
Here are all the Marlyn’s insight 🙂
What to Pack
Always always wear thermal undergarments as your first layer, it can be Heatech from Uniqlo (I wore this), or sth similar from Jack Wolfskin, National Geographic or other brand. Buy the waterproof hiking pants that has fleece inside (I got one from Quechua-Decathlon), mine is only waterproof hiking pants some other girls wear waterproof skiing pants. Bring 2 gloves, because even Forclaz gloves from Decathlon that is fit for skiing or outdoor activity will get soaked, you can also buy in Iceland I’ll recommend you some shop. Bring lots lots lots of socks! any thickness as I always wear double socks. Wear hiking winter boots, will be better if it’s waterproof too. Scarf, hats and the things to cover your mouth not using scarf, like a headband but for mouth or face also necessary. Use body butter, handcreme, lipbalm and eye drops because the weather will make your skin and eye dry.
For bottom part: undergarments + jeans. If the weather will be raining or windy + waterproof Quechua-Decathlon. For glacier hike only undergarments + waterproof Quechua-Decathlon is enough.
For upper part: undergarments + sweater + winter jacket (I wear the one that is blubblubblub like a Baby Michelin style you know what I mean). If you have a winter jacket that is also waterproof is even better. However I do recommend a vest from Ororo it cost around 150 USD depends on which time you bought it maybe would be wise to buy it during Black Friday, had I knew it earlier I would’ve bought it. Please use my link to buy it so I might get a points 🙂 http://ororo.refr.cc/marlynpraseli
Dana wore this, while we were freezing she was just fine and act like the cold don’t bother her, I asked her why and she explained that her vest has a rechargeable battery so it can warm your body for 8 hours.
What to Eat
Oh my, here all the foods are amazing especially fish soup, lobster soup or any seafood-food, if you don’t eat seafood I think the lamb also good but I don’t eat lamb so…… I just keep eating fish soup even though I also not a big fans of fish. However, you need to download the app Dineout because you need to make a RSVP always. Btw, they do serve water for free yeay! And they won’t judge you like cheap if you just order food and drink water 😉 Good to know that Icelandic tap water is one of the cleanest water in whole world, no need to spend money on buying bottled water.
Here all the places that I went to, I definitely force you to eat at Potturinn og Pannan and Messin. And the rest, you can just have a look if it’s what you’d like 🙂
Potturinn og Pannan. I had a Langoustine soup and Chicken breast sth, they all are good but the Langoustine soup oohhh! blew me away. Total meal I had is ISK 6400 = EUR 43,59.
Messinn. I had an Atlantic Wolffish, if you google Wolffish it is a weird one but trust me, also blew my mind! Price is ISK 3880 = EUR 26,50. Besides that fish, what is top favorite is Creamy Lobster Soup. Katey and Jemima had it, I tried but I really don’t like it because the smell is very pungent which is very strong times 1000! Other girls like it and said it is how lobster soup suppose to be….hmmmm….But Jess ordered Icelandic Plokkfiskur with Bearnaise Sauce and oh my it is delicious!!! Anyway if you don’t want to try, just eat the Wolffish and you’re good 🙂
Forrettabarrin. It is like a tapas place. Just order 2 portion and it’s enough. I had again Langoustine soup-it’s good! and cocktail shrimps & scallops-the scallops is great but I didn’t read it carefully that they put wasabi so I don’t enjoy it. The meal I had is ISK 3700 = EUR 25,40.
Saegreifinn. This place is small and not a proper dinner, the menu is only what on the display and they will just grill it. I had a salmon it’s not bad but they have a blow your mind Lobster soup! When you sit on the second floor be careful there is a “creepy stuffed man” this place is rather weird because it’s all full with stuffed animals. Total meal I had is ISK 2540 = EUR 16,9
The other food I ate was Fish and Chips, Ribs, Pizza and not a special Icelandic so it’s just OK. The other recommendation that you can try is Skal, ROK, SeaBarren, Islenski barinn. Don’t forget do it all through Dineout app.
What to Do
First, download the buss app Straeto and put your credit card there, one way ticket is ISK 490, nope they don’t have 24 hours ticket, daily ticket, group ticket or whatever ticket. Btw, you need to wave your hand, body, feet etc when your bus came because the driver won’t stop! You need to make sure the driver see you and make a sign that you wanted to get on that bus or else he/she will pass you by. Second, download Aurora App, this is the app you can use to predict if you can see Northern Lights or not! Oh yeah, the exciting part! See the green part, percentage and cloud coverage. If the percentage is 8% and above then there is a big probability that you can see it.
According to my experience, Northern Light Tour starts at 21:00 and you go to somewhere that doesn’t have a light, far from city center and what worse about it is you have to just stand outside for at least 2 hours. Why is that? Because the Northern Lights is always moving! For 15 minutes you only see one line, you were already happy then it’s gone from your sight for 10 minutes however it moves due to the cloud coverage then it’s re-appear from behind you and stays there for 25 minutes then last thing you know, it all around the sky and you are so glad you didn’t go back when it seems like the end of it. This pictures and video are taken with a mobile phone and this also how I see it with my bare eyes, maybe only 1 level lighter green but still green!
The important thing we can’t forget about Northern Lights is that it is a nature phenomenon, no matter how good the App on predicting it, it still can go wrong (not appear). So my suggestion is if you want to see it, better not make a special trip solely to Iceland-or else you might get or be ready for a disappointment, make it if you want to travel to some countries in Europe then have a stop in Iceland, be flexible with your return ticket. Let me remind you again, it is not always there. I am very lucky that I saw it 3 days in a row while the group that went before me they see nothing. One girl-Dana from the last group extend her staying by one more day and she got a chance to see it with my group on our first day of the tour.
Simply contact @nicetraveliceland, ask for a tour guide Christina or Magnus and make your deal with them. Since I went with 18 other girls we got a mini van for us. I’m not sure if you are only like 4 people group or so, for sure they can manage it only maybe the fee are different.
Here is our itinerary with @nicetraveliceland arranged by GGI. Day 1 from 21:00-Northern Lights in the evening. Day 3 from 08:30 until 18:30-The Golden Circle, including Thingvellier National Park, Geysir & Haukadalur Geothermal Area, Gullfoss – The Golden Waterfall, Kerid Crater Lake, Secret Lagoon (bring your own towel or else ISK 700 to rent there). Day 4 from 08:30 until 20:30-The South Coast, including Seljalandsfoss & Gljufrabui Waterfalls, Skogafoss Waterfall, Solheimajokull Glacier (please do additional activity Glacier Hike for 1,5 hours the cost is EUR 80, it’s a super easy hike and they gave you the safety equipment and spikes, it’s worthy!) and Reynisfjara Black Beach. Day 5 from 08:30-19:30-The Snaefellsnes Peninsula including Ytri Tunga Seal Colony, Black Church Budakirkja, Arnarstapi fishing village & sea arches, Londrangar Cliffs, Black Beach of Djupalonssandur, Kirkjufell (Arrowhead mountain, Game of Thrones). Wondering what happened with my Day 2? It wasn’t with @nicetraveliceland, we did Reykjavik City Walking Tour.
The total trip from GGI including hotel is EUR 1406. The Hotel that we stayed called Oddsson Hotel + Aurora Airport Hotel on my last day, it’s not bad, it’s a self check in hotel but if I may suggest please just look for a hotel / hostel really in downtown or walking distance to downtown. Because from Oddsson it take 30 mins bus ride and when the weather is so windy, you don’t want to stand still waiting for the bus.
What to Add
Besides the tour, I also suggest you to do additional activity such as:
Blue Lagoon. Ask them to pick you up from your hotel because the location of Blue Lagoon is really far, ofc with additional fee. Blue Lagoon is very expensive but again it’s worthy! The cost is ISK 15980 = EUR 107,89. You don’t need a towel as they provide it or even flipflops because it’s not necessary, you will walk barefoot anyway. If you are 11 people together you can book their Blue Lagoon Tour where they will explain something about it, with additional fee, you can ask their customer service for this. Book from their website https://www.bluelagoon.com/book/guests
Horse Riding Tour, I did from Laxnes. I know seems horse riding is not so special but mind you that this is Icelandic horse, you won’t see it anywhere because if Icelandic horse leave Iceland, they can’t go back. It is very special experience, the cost is ISK 14900 = EUR 100,46. Book from https://laxnes.is/laxnes-special I forget if there is additional fee for pick up or already included.
What I was disappointed is with the Whale Watching Tour, not with the tour but it’s a whale, we can’t control them if they want to jump or not. So I didn’t really see anything and it’s expensive ISK 14190 = EUR 94,35. They do their best to keep searching for the whale, dolphins etc but again I only saw the tip of the whale. Let me say it clearly, I’m not disappoint with elding, if you never do any kind of this activity before then you can make your own experience and decide if you still want to do it in the future or not. I can only recommend you to not choose their pick up service because it’s located somehow not so far from city center, you can easily take a bus that cost ISK 490 other than pick up like me that cost ISK 2200. I do it with https://elding.is/reykjavik-classic-whale-watching Attention guys you can also do Northern Lights on a boat but my suggestion is NO NO NO! You don’t want to be in a middle of ocean, with bumpy sorry very bumpy waves, cold water, nope you don’t want to get sea sick NO NO NO! Do it on the road! ask @nicetraveliceland and you’re good.
Volcano Hike. Book from https://troll.is/tour/geldingadalur-active-volcano-tour/ If I’m not mistaken it’s including pick up service, if not, just add it. You can rent a hiking shoes with them but please email them separately because they need to know your shoe size, the tour guide will bring it to you, you can’t choose on the spot. If you didn’t email them your size the guide won’t bring it for you. Happened to me and they refunded my hiking shoes fee, lucky I came with my winter boots if I came with flipflops goodbyeeee. The price is ISK 11310 = EUR 75,21. The hike imo was easy only if you don’t carry stuff, leave everything on the bus because it’s a 4 hours full of walk.
Where to Shop
Iceland can be very cold even with all the preparation you make. If the cold is very very unbearable. You can go to store 66 degree or Icewear, it’s everywhere. But, if you want to shop and do charity at the same time, you can go to Thorvaldens Bazar. It is a small boutique located in the city center and organized by a lovely 2 old ladies aaawwww, if we buy something there some portion will go for charity, I don’t want to say how many % because I forget, our walking tour Nana knew about it andddddd it’s all handmade! I didn’t buy mittens or hats because I had enough but the girls who bought it there said it’s really warm. Also if you buy ISK 6000 at one store, make sure you ask for a tax refund. Alcohol is very expensive here even more expensive then when I was in Shanghai, forget about alcohol in Germany it cost nothing. I suggest you to buy it in the Airport Duty Free before you fly there. If you want to go for a supermarkt, choose Bonus because it’s the cheapest one haha
Okay, I think I gave already what I know about Iceland, you can always reach me if more information needed 🙂
Make sure you do have at least 3K Euro for a 9 days trip! Happy saving and happy traveling 😉
