A famous motivational quote once said “when one door closes, the other opens” they use the word “the other”, “window”, “roof” (haha just kidding) I meant anything to show that actually there will be another way. I used to think its just a slogan that motivator use, which is a total crap (until it happened to me).
I had the perfect plan of going to Australia to be with my sister, quit my job in Shanghai, announce my leaving to some friends, passed the IELTS, even getting into a first step of applying to get their permanent residence just to find out that I can’t go to the next step, the status is “on hold” (read: forget about it). On top of that, both Australia and China closed the border until God knows when. The world seems to fall off, no jokes, $h#! was real.
And that specific quote was a total joke (read: at that time 😉 ) However, I live my life, continue my WFH until my contract finished and since my boss knew about my plan they already had someone that will be my successor. See the positive side regarding this? Meh, me neither! until that email came… out of the blue…
One simple sentence that took me about 10 minutes to understand and there it is, my karma stopped by to greet me, another door really does open. A one phone call that turns my 2020 upside down.
Next thing I know, I was waiting in front of German Embassy in Jakarta to apply for my working visa.
And yes people that is where you wait for your appointment, in the sidewalk! there are no and never will be a chair, a shade to protect you from a crazy 37 degree Celcius Jakarta’s weather, nothing! They should write “bring umbrella, in case you got faint while waiting to get in to our building” 😉
Next step, I started to do my packing, this time only the essentials! as many essentials as you can to fit in to 2 luggages with 40kg plus 7kg carry on, and 5kg of backpack while I’m 45kg myself, I fell like I am an ant that carry stuff heavier than itself, time to step out antman, antmarlyn is cooler 😉
Final step is departure time! All I need to do is just fly there. I landed Germany safe and sound and unexpectedly very smooth! So happy to get out from the airport and found the two people that flipped my 2020, don’t worry we all have masks and since we are sitting and drinking we are not wearing it, we don’t violate any rules.
It’s just too superficial to be true, while others lose their job during pandemic, I got one. The very best job I could ever asked for with the people that genuinely thoughtful and fight for you to be accepted by the company without any interview, in the most developed country that ever exist. The one big question is why me? and the answer is I don’t know and will never be. I have no idea how long I will stay there but one thing I truly know, I’d love every seconds that I have there.
To whoever feels that they’re stuck in their own way, please hold on, keep doing your best in every way you can, you will never know that you’re luck is just around the corner.
